Looking to Save with Solar on energy bills and reduce your carbon footprint? The Solar Panel Rebate 2025 with Victorian Government is offering a rebate of up to $1,400 to eligible homeowners installing solar panel (PV) systems. Plus, you can access an interest-free loan of the same amount to lower your upfront costs even further.

Here’s everything you need to know to save with solar.

What is the Solar Panel (PV) Rebate?

The Solar Panel Rebate is part of the Solar Homes Program, helping Victorians cut energy costs while supporting clean energy adoption. It provides up to $1,400 towards the installation of a rooftop solar system for eligible households.

You may also be eligible for an interest-free loan of up to $1,400, effectively halving the cost you pay upfront.

Who is Eligible?

  • Be the owner-occupier of an existing property or a home under construction
  • Have a combined household taxable income of less than $210,000 per year
  • Ensure your property is valued at under $3 million
  • Confirm the property has not previously received a solar panel or battery rebate
  • Have not installed a solar system in the last 10 years at the same address
  • Use authorised solar retailers and eligible products

Note: If you’re on the Premium Feed-in Tariff, consider your options before replacing an existing system—this scheme ends on 1 November 2024.

Building a New Home?

Yes—you can apply for the rebate while your home is still under construction. But it’s important to:

  • Speak with your builder early in the planning process
  • Get their consent for solar installation during construction
  • Ensure the installer has safe access to the site
  • Submit the rebate application at the right stage of the build

Homes under construction aren’t eligible for other Solar Homes rebates or loans until construction is complete.

Interest-Free Loans – How Do They Work?

If approved, you’ll be offered a loan of up to $1,400 with:

  • No interest or collateral required
  • Repayments of $29.16/month over 4 years
  • Payments debited automatically starting 30 days after installation approval

The loan amount is paid directly to the solar retailer alongside the rebate—so you just pay the remaining balance.

Step-by-Step Installation Process

Here’s how to claim your rebate and get your solar installed the right way:

  • Research options – Read Solar Victoria’s PV Buyer’s Guide
  • Get a quote from an authorised solar retailer using eligible products
  • Wait for the retailer to upload your quote to the Solar Victoria portal
  • Receive confirmation that your quote is in the system
  • Get pre-approval to connect to the grid
  • Prove your eligibility – Submit documents in the portal
  • Receive your QR code after approval
  • Install the system within 120 days (or 270 if building)
  • Pay the difference after rebate and loan are applied
  • Begin loan repayments, if applicable

Important: Don’t install your system before receiving rebate approval, or you’ll miss out.

When Are Rebates Released?

Rebates are available each month on a scheduled release cycle. Once the allocation is filled, you’ll need to wait for the next month’s release.

Tip: Apply early each month to avoid missing out.

Final Thoughts

This is a fantastic opportunity for Victorians to cut power bills, reduce emissions, and boost home value—all while taking advantage of generous government support.

If you think you’re eligible, start the process today by contacting an authorised solar retailer and preparing your documentation.
